Sleepy Time Lotion
PrintDo you have trouble winding down at night? You don’t have to stare at that ceiling until 2 a.m. You can use this homemade sleep lotion recipe, to help calm your mind and body.
Ingredients
Instructions
First, fill a small saucepan half full with water and bring to a slow simmer.
You could use a double broiler, but I just use a pint mason jar to make my lotions and balms.
Add the beeswax, coconut oil, and shea butter to the jar. Stir until completely melted.
I recommend using a shish kabob stick or chopsticks to stir your oils.
Once everything has liquefied, carefully pour it into a small, steep sided bowl.
Set aside to cool, but don't let it harden. If it does get hard while you're working the next step or have to step away, just put the bowl over the pan of simmering water to turn it to liquid again.
Next, measure out the cool oils: the jojoba and the sweet almond oil.
I don't get too specific with this step. I fill a 1 cup container halfway with the almond oil, then I fill it the rest of the way with the jojoba oil.
When the heated oils are cool enough to stick your finger in, add the jojoba/almond oil.
Beat the oils together with a mixer. At the beginning it will kinda look like scrambled eggs. Keep mixing until smooth and creamy, about 10 minutes.
Next, add the vitamin E and essential oils and mix well.
Next, add the cornstarch or arrowroot powder.
Turn the mixer on high to break up all the lumps and thoroughly blend it into the lotion.
You're done! Now fill your bottles or jar with your lotion. Rub into your skin about a half hour before bed to promote sleep.
This recipe makes about 8 ounces of lotion.
