Essential Oils to use during Cold and Flu Season

It’s that time of year when the sniffles, aches, colds and germs are flying around. I’ve got some tips today to help you and your family stay healthy and happy during the fall and winter season!

10 Ways to Use Essential Oils, Real Food and Detox During Cold and Flu Season:

  1. Use the Immune Support Oil Blend – Place 10 drops Frankincense, 10 drops OnGuard, 10 Drops Melaleuca and 10 drops Lemon in a 10ml glass roller ball and then top with fractionated coconut oil. Rub a few swipes on the bottoms of the feet 2x a day.
  2. Drink Bone Broth (aka chicken stock) – Homemade chicken stock contains a wealth of nutrients, helps strengthen the immune system and is also known for its antiviral properties. We drink a cup or two each day along with some Celtic sea salt (an unrefined salt that contains extra minerals). If you prefer not to drink it from a cup, make a big pot of soup and serve some alongside meals or send some to school with the kids in an insulated thermos.
  3. Take an Epsom Salt and Lavender Bath – When we are stressed, the first mineral our body burns through is magnesium, and a deficiency in magnesium can cause all sorts of health issues. An easy way to replenish magnesium stores is to take an epsom salt bath. Add 1 cup of Epsom salts and 2 drops of lavender to your bath and soak for 20 minutes. The stress will melt away! 🙂
  4. Eat Healthy Saturated Fats Daily – Unprocessed, saturated fats are essential for energy, hormone production, a healthy immune system, and many other important functions. These fats include: organic butter (butter can help strengthen the immune system, suppresses inflammation, and is a great source of iodine), coconut oil (contains antiviral and antimicrobial properties which are great for keeping the immune system strong), ghee, grass-fed lard or tallow, palm oil (always purchase from companies that buy from sustainable farms), and duck fat.
  5. Use Essential Oils to Keep Healthy Blood Sugar Levels in Check – Unbalanced blood sugar levels can cause inflammation, hormonal issues, and make the body susceptible to seasonal threats. Rub 1 drop of Cinnamon and 1 drop of Cardamom diluted in some fractionated coconut oil over the pancreas 2x a day. You can also make a rollerball blend with these two oils if you’d like. To do so, place 10 drops of Cinnamon and 10 drops of Cardamom in a 10ml glass roller ball and top with fractionated coconut oil.
  6. Reduce Sugar Intake – Sugar causes inflammation and weakens the immune system. Keep the desserts at a minimum.
